Wednesday January 25th

At about 7:15 each day we leave home and take a walk down the dirt road to the school.
The road between home and school
We receive an awesome greeting of "TEACHER! TEACHER!" at the gate each day.

We each go to our respective classes. This day, Jess wasn't feeling well, so she and April stayed home for the morning. Rachael subbed for the first hour in the grade R class with Michael. Kyle joined the Grade 2 and 3 classes, assisting teacher Ameria. I popped in on the Grade 5 class, who were all reading aloud in unison from Matthew. As usual, I listened to them read until 8:30, when we began Botany.

Today was a long day--sometimes the lunch break begins before 12, but on Wednesdays it goes until 12. Since I had extra time this day, I decided to take my Grade 6/7 kids on a "field trip." I really wanted to take them out to experience some field science, and they were so grateful to go! We took our Botany Journal Notebooks and colored pencils, and went out to find Monocots and Dicots in nature. I have to say this to my co-op kids in PA: it was MUCH better weather here for a nature walk than I hear you're having in PA!

After our field trip, the kids broke for lunch, and our team went home for lunch and school work of our own. We hung out at the house for a few hours, and then headed back to school for free time, taking a new route the other way around the block:

This took us past a neighborhood "convenience store" where we got a loaf of bread, some cookies, a few sodas, and a jar of cinnamon ("a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of cinnamon and some honey will prevent heart attacks," said the proprietor, a friendly Muslim man.)

Rounding the block, we made it to the school, where we found our friends hard at play. And we jumped right in with them!

A quiet moment of prayer with the kids before they go into the hall for dinner:

And then we head home to regroup and start again at 6 AM the next day... good night!

  1. So cool to see the kids there working on exactly the same things as Griffin and the co-op Botony class here:) These pictures are amazing and I'm already praying for all of your hearts when you have to depart these beautiful faces! Thank you for taking the time to share these moments with us - what a wonderful impact each one of you is having on the lives of these children ... investments into God's kingdom!
