Gardening, Aurora Style

Today I got to work in the school garden with Sipho, the handyman at the school, another worker named John, and a few of the kids. Rachael was in on the scene for a while, until she decided digging up the rows was NOT as much fun as playing with the kids in the play yard. We dug up and planted two rows of beans, which was so cool, because I have been teaching the kids all about seeds, and we are currently sprouting bean seeds in the classroom windows, in the fridge, and in the dark. Each student has his/her own bean that they are tracking for sprouting progress. Anyway, it was so wonderful that I happened to discover 5 baby been seedlings growing wild in the garden. I dug them up, excited to show my students, because they still had all of the embryonic parts that we'd been studying. The kids were quite fascinated, and we made a big ceremony of replanting the seedlings in Agnes' small garden near the kitchen. Hope they survive!
