5 days until we travel

Today I gathered the various and sundry trip piles that have accumulated around the house and loaded up my large suitcase to get an idea if I could actually make the 50-pound weight limit. With plenty of room to spare in my bag, I hauled it onto the bathroom scale and was chagrined to see that it had already reached 50 pounds! Some texts back and forth with April indicated that she, too, was struggling with the airline limitations. How will we make it all fit? Well, God will work it out, I'm sure--He always does. But we are finding ourselves challenged, to be sure!

Yesterday I picked up our team T-shirts from the shirt printers, and they look nice! Tomorrow, our team will gather at the Forsters' house after church to tie dye the shirts, and we'll be set to go in style!

Tomorrow is also a big day for our team--we'll be commissioned in front of the church. According to the dictionary, commissioning is "the act of granting certain powers or the authority to carry out a particular task or duty." By commissioning us, the church will, in effect, grant our team the authority to do God's work at the Aurora School. Both of our families will go up in front of the church for both services. Ironically, Katie is the most nervous of us all, and she's not even going on the trip!

Lastly, we have now started working on our missions journals, which are walking us through daily reflections and devotions to focus and center us as we prepare to travel to Africa.
