| This is the B and B where we will stay our first week--with a pool! |
Today we had a touristy day after attending church with our hosts, the Walkers. We went to a theme park called Gold Reef where they had many rides (like Hershey park) and a tour of a mine that is no longer in operation. It was a very, very cool tour--we went down about 250 meters and our guide took us all around the cross-cuts and the various shafts, explaining all aspects of mining. We also got to see how gold is refined and melted, and we all got to touch and pick up a gold bar. It was a great home school trip! We also toured a few homes that were replicas of homes that mine workers. farmers, and mine bosses might have owned, complete with all the furniture, artifacts, etc. The kids also opted to ride a few roller coasters, but no thanks for me--my friend April and I went on a little run-away mine coaster for those less-inclined to spill their guts.

All in all everything is going well. Tomorrow we will go to the school to help with student registration, and school starts for real on Wednesday.
Weather is lovely--warm but not oppressive, with a short refreshing shower yesterday afternoon.
