Pilanesburg Safari, or Bust!

Today we set off on our Safari adventure. Since we are without a vehicle here, we had to rent a car to be able to go on this long-anticipated safari. Problem is, neither April nor I were crazy about driving here (they drive on the left, and the driver sits on the right, and an affordable vehicle will have a standard shift that you must use left-handed.) So we asked Courtney, a fellow teacher here at Aurora, if she might like to accompany us for the weekend, and be our "tour guide/driver." Courtney loves just about any adventure, so she was thrilled to be able to come along.

The first step was getting the car, which April arranged with seemingly seamless effort (after a LOT of internet investigatory leg-work.) But when we arrived at the airport to pick up the car, we found that Expedia in the US had not bothered to inform Dollar Rent a Car in S Africa of our reservation. We camped for a while outside the Dollar offices with all of our luggage as things were untangled, and eventually they just gave us the vehicle and said they'd honor the quoted price, even though they had no record of our reservation.

We sat guard with the luggage while officials sorted out the problem.

Rae made the best of the wait by writing encouraging  letters to some of her Aurora students

When we finally got the van, none of us could believe how big it turned out to be!

After a quick lunch stop, we grabbed a few groceries and headed off on our weekend adventure.
